Fishing the Fowey

The Fowey at Wainsford is a favourite holding reach for Sea Trout and Salmon fresh from the sea and has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the best Sea Trout rivers in the UK. Characteristically gin clear, it provides a real challenge to the fly fisherman.

Nestled in the heart of rural Cornwall

The cottages and surrounding grounds sit quietly in the landscape, nestled in the beautiful Glynn Valley. Wainsford is home to a huge array of wildlife. In addition to Salmon and Trout, Kingfishers, Dippers and Grey Wagtails can regularly be seen on the rivers. The lake is home for Dragonflies, Ducks and Moorhens, while the Heron is a regular visitor. Occasionally you can glimpse the Deer in the meadow as the Buzzards soar overhead.

Fishing

Fish on the Fowey River

Wainsford is positioned 5-miles from the tide, and given reasonable water volume is a favourite holding reach for Sea Trout and Salmon fresh from the sea. The Fowey has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the best Sea Trout rivers in the UK.

A true moorland river, the Fowey rises near Brown Willy on Bodmin, and the highest point in Cornwall. It flows for 30 miles to the sea at Fowey and is little influenced by agricultural or industrial activity. Characteristically gin clear, it provides a real challenge to the fly fisherman.
